As the impacts of the earthquake are felt, the world media actually picked up on the earthquake. It turns out that vibrations were felt as far away as Bangkok and Vietnam and some buildings in Chiang Rai (a city in northern Thailand) were damaged. I've come across two articles which talk about the earthquake if you're at all interested. The first one is from the Bangkok Post and the second is from the BBC.
